After School Programs
All of our youth-oriented programs grew out of women’s economic needs for safe, world-class programs to serve their children while they work. We responded.

Our After and Out-of-School programs operate year-round, and serve children in kindergarten through eighth grade.

After School programs run September through the end of the academic year, and are available at the YWCA in  Haverhill, Lawrence and at our new location on Broadway in Lawrence.  Focus is given to academic success and training children to be eager and affective learners, with afternoon tutoring available.  Once homework is completed, children are encouraged to participate in games, field trips, and our computer center.

Out-of-School programs run during school vacations, including the summertime.  Inventive activities include trips to the Farmer’s Market, field trips to such places as Spectacle Island in Boston, Disney on Ice or other holiday events, or a local museum.

On a rotating basis, our gender-specific GEMS  [Girls Empowered Means Success] is specifically designed for teen girls age 14 and older, and operates year-round, both after and out-of-school.  Meeting twice monthly, girls gather and staff help direct the focus on how to build self-confidence, realistic body image, healthy dating relationships and how to best live with the consequences of our actions.  Additionally, GEM girls attend various community events to help raise awareness about healthy relationships and safe teen dating.
