Promoting healthy lifestyles and good physical fitness to children within our After and Out-of-School and Domestic Violence programs is important to us.  We believe that educating children and clients about the benefits of proper, healthy nutrition and physical activity helps them make better choices, and improves the overall quality of their lives.

Focus on Nutrition
In each of our programs, staff conduct tutorials and workshops for children and residents on the fundamentals of healthy nutrition choices.  Emphasis is placed on a balanced nutrition plan, limiting sodas, sweets and other treats.

Physical Fitness
For the children we serve through our After School program, we offer ad hoc fitness classes, and also offer a walking program to help them develop healthy body images and get used to being active.  On certain occasions, we take children to the YWCA in Lawrence to use their gymnasium and pool.  Equipment is available for them to play a variety of floor or pool sports, including hockey, kick-ball, basketball, badminton, pool volleyball and free swim.  Emphasis is placed on good sportsmanship and building physical capacity.
